Circles in a Spiral

In the Windmill of my Mind

A terrible accident

Murphy’s Law “If anything can go wrong, it will” So it does.

I received news, disturbing news, bad news, about the husband of my sister-in-law. He fell off his ladder from a height of 10 meters. As a result of that terrible fall, he broke both his wrists and suffered extensive damage to one eye.

I am saddened by this news. He is a soft spoken and unassuming man who ekes a living as an electrical wire man. His wife works as a factory hand at Hewlett Packard. They have two children – a son and a daughter.

What I fail to understand is why did he take that kind of risk when he knew that the ladder in use was defective and he did not have his partner to hold the base of the ladder while he mounted it?

What a costly mistake!

Being self employed, he has no recourse to medical and social security in this time of suffering and need. His wife is traumatised by the incident. I can imagine what that family is apprehensive about.

With Chinese New Year just around the corner, this event dampens the joy in the mandatory family reunion dinner. I am sure that there is going to be the wise guys blabbing their stuff about what they think is the best solution for that family.

God’s speed in your recovery, Ah Wah (that’s his name). I shall be seeing you in a week from now.

I am a BBB

Yeah, a BBB.

As in Beautiful Big Boobs?

 :-o

It’s Blue Blooded Blogger.

Who awarded me that title? Me of course. I can’t just sit here waiting for people to take note that my Blog exists and hand awards to my Blog.

You know it’s like the saying that goes, “If Mohammed will not go to the mountain, the mountain must come to Mohammed.” But I will have to rephrase to be supportive as in, “If Blog Awards will not come to Windmill of my Mind, Windmill of my Mind will go to the Blog Awards”

FeedBurner Value-added Blog Enhancements

The more time spent “developing” this Blog, the more discoveries I make.

The latest being the superb enhancements that FeedBurner provides. And the good news is that their bundle of goodies are provided for free!

At least for Blogger Blog, I discovered that installing their various blog enhancements is a breeze.

I have added some pf FeedBurner’s enhancements which can be seen at this Blog. Other enhancements work in the background and is not visual at this Blog.

What else do I need?

Hmmm, I am still searching for a way to hack Blogger Blog so that Avatars may be included in the Post and in the Comment field by users and I. So far, no solution from hackers.  :D

Three column Blog format

I found somewhere else, instructions to how this Blogger Blog format can be changed from a two column format to a three column format. Sounds interesting. But having read through the instructions, I am uneasy about giving it a try. Sounds a bit too techy for me at this moment and neither do I wish to spend too much time trying it nor worser still, lose my entire Blog by programming corruption.

Pull down menu for side bar

What this Blog needs is a pull down menu for lengthy items. Such as the those that is seen under

“Like a snowball down a mountain” (which is the default Post Archieve that I had re-titled) and “Or a carnival balloon” (which is my own inclusion for Smiley codes that are accepted for
use at this Blog). As the side bar becomes elongated by these lengthy items, it makes formatting the number of Posts a tedious affair. I have to reset the number of Posts that appear on the Blog everytime it overshoots or undershoots the length of the side bar.

Why did not Google Blogger programmers think of a solution to this problem and embed a “scroll” function to the number of Posts that would run at tandem with the length of the side bar. That way both the Post column and the side bar column would not breach each other’s length and make the Blog appear lopsided. Google are you reading this too? :D

So far it has been good throughout albeit with a few scarry moments.

State of the Union speech by U.S Bush

“The President shall from time to time give to Congress information of the State of the Union and recommend to their Consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.”
(Article II, Sec. 3, U.S. Constitution)
Therefore, on January 28th, President Bush gave his last State of the Union speech in Congress.

To those like me who live in a distant land from America, his speech would have hardly any bearing on our daily lives. Except of course that it is true that whatever happens in America does have far reaching effects on the clime of other nations economy.

I read his State of the Union speech and would like to make comments to some of the contents.

“As Americans, we believe in the power of individuals to determine their destiny and shape the course of history. We believe that the most reliable guide for our country is the collective wisdom of ordinary citizens. And so in all we do, we must trust in the ability of free peoples to make wise decisions, and empower them to improve their lives for their futures.”

Saddam Hussein must be rolling in his grave when Bush said those words.

“Just as we trust Americans with their own money, we need to earn their trust by spending their tax dollars wisely.”

Did Bush say that the U.S Government needs to earn Americans trust by spending their tax
dollars wisely?
Does that mean that the U.S Government has lost that trust?
Does his spending billions on the invasion and costly occupation of Iraq an worthy expense of
American lives and welfare support his statement?

“On trade, we must trust American workers to compete with anyone in the world and empower them by opening up new markets overseas.”

Now, really Bush, do you seriously mean that? What empowerment are you pointing at? Empowerment given only to your cronies?

“Our foreign policy is based on a clear premise: We trust that people, when given the chance, will choose a future of freedom and peace. “

That meant enforced democracy when he said “given the chance”.

“Our enemies in Iraq have been hit hard. They are not yet defeated, and we can still expect tough fighting ahead…….The mission in Iraq has been difficult and trying for our nation…….. But it is in the vital interest of the United States that we succeed……..”

A large part of his speech dealt with the war in Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, et cetera and the threat of terrorists. Despite having promised that America’s invasion of Iraq was to be short,
sweet and victorious, it has become an futile war. What vital interest in the name of democracy
is Bush talking about? Why does he not simply say that the vital interest is OIL.

“America is leading the fight against global poverty. America is leading the fight against global hunger.America is leading the fight against disease.”

For all the resources and money that Bush has squandered on the war in Iraq that alone could have done so much more in his boast about fighting global poverty, global hunger and disease.

Bush will go down in American History as the worst ever President unless, may God forbid, there is more to come in the future. In the wake of his 2nd and final term, Bush through his own doings, he will leave a nation torn by a political divide that America has never faced in its history, a nation that is straddled with mounting fiscal challenges, a nation that has never been mocked by other nations including a few of America’s staunchest allies.

Another nice Blog embellishment

Hello World,

You noticed that scroll widget right beneath the Blog’s Logo? I found it at : http://www.widgetbox.com/

Isn’t that a real cute widget? But that’s the good part.

Here’s the sore part.

To get it right cost me an entire afternoon. I found out that the widget works perfect on Opera and Firefox browsers.

The problem is that for some reason it does not work with Microsoft’s Internet Explorer ver 7. I do not know if it works on earlier versions of I.E. Despite having disabled whatever that could have prevented the widget from working and enabling whatever else that could be at I.E 7 it was still the same failed result. As usual, anything that’s Microsoft is full of bugs, creepy crawlies and gremlins.

So, I went right back into the Blog’s template and very cautiously tweaked it such that it finally works on I.E 7 and at the right position on the Blog’s format.

Nothing succeeds like Success!
